Tournament Format

The tournament format is bracket play, not round robin, except in the Open Division, where round robin will be used the first two days.  Opponents are only pre-determined in the first round, except in the Open Division.  To win the tournament championship, your team must win all of its games.  There is no overall tournament champion, so teams from different divisions (3A, 2A, Open, 1A) will not play each other.

How to Read the Tournament Brackets

All teams play one game on the first day of the tournament (July 19) and then two on the second day (July 20).  It is bracket play, with each lettered pool consisting of eight teams.  Except for the Open Division, which will consist of round robin the first two days.  On the first day, winners go right and losers go left.  For the second day, winners follow the solid lines and losers drop down into smaller brackets.  The last two days, July 21st and 22nd, teams move on to numbered pools (1-8), which is also bracket play.  For the first round in the numbered pools, winners go right and losers go left.  For the second round, winners follow the solid lines, and losers drop down into the bottom brackets.  For the third round, winners follow the solid lines and losers follow the dashed lines.  For all rounds, the time and court is listed WITHIN your bracket and the bottom team listed is the home team and wears light colored jerseys.  The winners of their respective pools in each division move on to Pool 1, the second place teams on to Pool 2, and so on.  So for instance the winner of 3A Pool A, goes to Elite Pool 1 and is considered “A1” (1st Place-Pool A).  The second place team of 3A Pool A goes to 3A Pool 2 and is considered “A2” (2nd Place-Pool A).  Here is a sample bracket:

From this we see that Team 5 won 3A Pool A, therefore they advance to Pool 1 and will play against the other pool winners in the 3A division.  Team 4 came in second, so they go to Pool 2, etc.

For the 3A division there will be 16 lettered pools (A-P).  The 2A division there will be 16 lettered pools (A-P).  For the Open division there will be 8 lettered pools (A-H).  The 1A division will have 8 lettered pools (A-H).  The 3A and 2A will have 16 teams in each numbered pool.  The Open and 1A will have 8 teams in each numbered pool.
